a review of 'tiny pushes vol.1 (how to be childlike)' has appeared out of nowhere and can now be read on the reviews page. the new (and first 'proper') calamateur album, 'the old fox of '45' is currently being mastered and will be released on autoclave records sometime in the future.

the official release date of the 'son of everyone' ep has been pushed back a bit (to the 3rd November, I think) but there's been some good news regarding airplay and reviews. radio 3's late junction played 'reply all' off the new ep recently, beat 106's beatscene have played 'son of everyone' a few times, cielo liquido have played 4 tracks off the ep so far and fallout on radiomagnetic.com have played 'son of everyone' as well. there's been a couple of great reviews so far of the ep which you can check out on the reviews page.

the 'son of everyone' ep has now got an official release date of 13th october 2003. It will be distributed through shellshock. if you want to get it before then, you can buy it online, norman records , rough trade, or jockrock, or if you don't have a credit/debit card, you can buy directly from calamateur. the willard grant conspiracy gigs went really well. thanks to rob for asking me to play, to the w.g.c. for letting me, and to toby of horse stories for letting me steal some of his stage time! the gigs were at the portmahomack caley hotel and the east grange loft in forres. hopefully there'll be more calamateur gigs at the loft soon. it's a beautiful venue in the loft (funnily enough) of an old farmhouse.

calamateur will be supporting the willard grant conspiracy at two highland gigs next week. the dates are the caley hotel in portmahomack on the 3rd september, and the east grange loft in forres on the 4th. the willard grant conspiracy were incredible at greenbelt so it's well worth catching them live.

calamateur's greenbelt gigs went well. the first gig was on the ymca bandstand on the friday night, then the performance cafe gig on the saturday night, then a performance of 'white light unknown' at the late night cabaret on monday, the last night. go to the new photos page to see some pictures of these gigs.

a new calamateur cd will be available soon! the ‘son of everyone’ e.p. will be released on autoclave records and will be out towards the end of august, just in time for calamateur’s greenbelt appearance. the lead song on the e.p. is taken from the forthcoming calamateur album that will also be released on autoclave records. the ep has 8 tracks on it – to see the full tracklisting as well as other details, go to the releases page.

calamateur played last saturday at the maple court hotel in inverness as part of the ‘summer in the city’ bbq and garden party, and also later on in the day as support to the incomparable nss and the ashtray hearts.

calamateur will be playing the greenbelt festival on the 23^rd august in the performance cafe, 20:30 – 21:15. look out for other gigs over the weekend as well...

just a quick note on some calamateur airplay: all the tracks on the ‘autocity’ ep have been played on uk radio. ‘driscoll’ was played on jim gellatly’s beatscene on the 2^nd february, ‘bad day’ was played by john peel on the 7^th may, ‘innes’ has been played on radiomagnetic.com and ‘farstar’ was played on radio 3’s late junction on the 26^th may. hurrah!

also, ‘hopscotch’, ‘everyone is the one’ and ‘tree song’ (all from ‘tiny pushes vol.1...’) have been played on cielo liquido on spanish fm.

a new calamateur release is on its way! the ten track mini-album, ‘tiny pushes vol.1 (how to be childlike)’ will be available on the 26^th may. it’s a joint release by timshel records and autoclave records and you will be able to download it for free from the autoclave records website. for more info please see the releases page.

another calamateur album will also be out soon: ‘there is no other stream’ will be released on shingle street records and contains six songs, including ‘white light unknown’ and ‘inhabit’ – previously released as a 7” single on timshel records.

the gig on the 10^th april supporting m.a.s.s. went well. thanks again to the band and to rob. Keep checking here for details of upcoming gigs.

calamateur played at the maple court hotel in inverness on the 21^st february, supporting toni caitlin, a singer songwriter from the u.s.a.. the gig was put on by medicine music and was a great night. also playing that night was tanya, who runs the website www.countrymusicscotland.co.uk. the next calamateur gig will be on the 10^th april at the caley hotel in portmahomack, supporting m.a.s.s., who are touring with the bluetones at the moment, and were in peel’s festive fifty last year.

a new cd has been released by calamateur, ‘258 bridges’. it contains eight as yet unheard tracks but is limited to only two copies! the cd was made for a very supportive friend and none of the tracks will be made available anywhere else. sorry! more info on the releases page....

the ‘deep peace’ compilation to raise funds for trident ploughshares is slowly coming together. The tracklist has been finalised and it will (hopefully!) be out soon. it features a new track by calamateur as well as songs by oldsolar, aereogramme, spare snare, frog pocket, brahm, the gena rowlands band, the out_circuit and apologist.

the february issue of new scottish music mag is this music? is out now, featuring a calamateur interview as well as an exclusive calamateur track on the free cd. it’s available online from the jockrock shop or from quite a few independent record shops throughout scotland. there’s also a review of the autocity ep which you can find on this site’s reviews page.

thanks to everyone who’s bought a copy of the ‘autocity’ ep - so far the feedback’s been great. there are now two (good!) reviews of the ep on the reviews page. the ep is also now available to buy directly online at the jockrock, norman records and rough trade websites.

other news is that there is going to be a calamateur interview in the next issue of new scottish music mag, is this music?. the front cover cd will also include an exclusive new calamateur track, ‘orion’. this song was recorded at the same time as the songs on the ‘autocity’ ep, so it is in a similar vein, except that it has vocals on it.

happy new year from calamateur! there are a few new things to look at on the site, including some more information about the ‘autocity’ ep on the releases page, as well as the tracklisting for the forthcoming calamateur album, ‘258 bridges’, to be released soon on autoclave records.

other news is that a compilation album is to be released soon to raise funds for trident ploughshares. the compilation has been curated by calamateur, and will feature exclusive new calamateur tracks, as well as songs by oldsolar, aereogramme, spare snare, apologist, frog pocket, the gena rowlands band, brahm, the out_circuit and more. all profits will go to trident ploughshares. look out for more news in the future.
